This year's Deep Learning Indaba, held in Rwanda, was attended by 11 MCAAI members — the largest MCAAI delegation since the Indaba's first edition. We thank the Deep Learning Indaba organisers for sponsoring travel and accommodation for students and faculty.
During the Indaba, MCAAI members participated in workshops, discussion panels, community days, and poster presentations. Our highlights included:
- Cynthia Amol won the Alele-Williams Masters Award
- Nelson Odhiambo won a Best Poster Prize for his hate speech detection dataset
- John Muga won the Networking Prize
The Indaba provided an invaluable platform for exposure, collaboration, and connection with the wider African and global AI community.
